Hey Everyone, New guy here to the forum & to boating in general. I joined here to learn as much as I can about boats- basically I want to buy an open bow with an I/O engine. I figured this is the place to learn what I need to know about them & what to look for in a used boat. I've been a member of a Toyota FJ forum for about 2 years, joined after I got one, & have learned a ton of stuff about what the truck can do. Anyway, I know NOTHING about boats, only I want something like a Bayliner open bow 17' or 18' with an I/O engine. Just something I can have fun with the whole family on, like tubing, fishing, cursing around with the wife, 13 year old son & the 1 year old daughter. I don't need a balls to the wall $30,000 top of the line best of everything ship,(only saying this because on the other forum you get guy's that say "if your not spending $2 grand on a bumper & $1500 on the winch than don't even bother taking it off the pavement"), I just want to find a decent used boat, & I think I'll get the information I need right here. I'll try to read the FAQ's as much as I can so I'm not re-asking questions. I hope I will learn as much here as I did on the FJ forum. I'll be lurking around reading past posts & asking questions as needed. & I'll try to keep it a bit shorter next time. MAXX

Re: New Guy Here

Thanks, I've learned from the truck forum that most of the information I'm looking for is already here, just need to search the right way to find what I'm looking for. I just wanted to mention a "kick myself" experience from last summer. I do on the road sales that takes me to several small lakes in my area everyday, man do I want a lake front cottage, & I came across the perfect boat for me- 2007 ? I think, bayliner openbow, I/O with a brand new trailer. It looked like it was never on the water, drive away price $4500. I must have drove past it 50 times during work hours, when I decided to buy, it was sold. Same old story...........

Re: New Guy Here

Welcome to iboats, as stated if it has anything to do with boats/boating there is someone here that is an expert on it.

You have picked the right time to get in as the used boat market is really bloated and deals are everywhere.

You will learn pretty quickly that the similarities between a car and a boat are they both have steering wheels and burn gas, beyond that almost everything is different.

Don't blow the bank on your first boat because you may think it is perfect but once you start using it you may find that a different kind of boat will suit you better and you always tear up your first boat learning to use it.

Good luck and welcome aboard.
