All prices are negotiable these days. Show up with $12K cash and say take it or leave it. You might be surprised as to how desperate people are lately. Good luck and let us know what happens.

Before looking at the boat we told him we could not pay full price, and asked if it was worth the 2 hour drive to look at if we could not pay in full. He told us to save our time and said "we are already loosing money on this boat, I can't lower the price one penny."

So...Im really doubting that the price will go down any further. :(

Anyone own this boat with this engine? Hows the performance.....likes/dislikes? We might go get it today if I hear some good things!

The boat is sitting on a dealership floor, right? Every price is negotiable my friend. All salesmen will tell you they are losing money on the deal. You just fell for the oldest trick in the book. Also, telling them you'll pay full price is a huge no-no as well. Did you give them your name and number? If not, you can still attempt to negotiate. Have you tried contacting them via email? Sometimes that is a better way to negotiate because you can eliminate the face-to-face confrontation. I'm trying to help you get the best deal so I want to make sure you've tried all the tricks of the trade. Do you have to buy the boat today? I'm pretty sure it will be there a few more weeks (boats are not selling at all these days) so be patient and work the deal via email then make the 2-hr drive after you are sure you got the best deal. I have other tricks if you are interested, but I won't be able to write back until this evening. Cheers!

Sorry, I re-read your last email and thought you said you would pay full price but that is opposite of what you said. Sorry for the mistake.

With a V8 I'd say yeah, with a 4.3? Not such a screaming price.

Why not get an 07 or 08 with low hrs?

I have found with my last two car purchases that dealers are willing to let you walk out the door. However.....they always seem to call you on the phone and deal later!! 2 hours is a long way but a couple grand is a lot of money. It might be worth it to drive there to show you're seriously interested, make your offer, and leave. I bet he'll be calling.

Looks like we won't be going down there today. Probably not until next weekend. He wont do any negotiations over the phone, so we'll have to get there, make an offer, and leave before he'll lower the price.

Ill let you all know if anything happens with this boat. Its already more than we wanted to spend, going even newer will be out of our budget.

thanks guys.

Re: another "potential buy" thread - Bayliner 205

I had a friend with an older 205 with the 4.3 carbed. With a fresh tune-up It would do 50 MPH.

HAD a friend! He decided to ignore pain radiating down his left arm. At least he went quickly.

The only thing I didn't like about the boat was that under full throttle, sitting in the back, there was vibration and it felt (to me) like the hull was flexing.

Right now gas prices are depressed and a 2 hour ride is going to cost you what--10 bucks? so for 20 bucks, take a chance and go see it. If it is a dealer, he is paying carrying charges and yes, you do have leverage. You can always walk away and leave your email with an offer. Gas prices will rise again during the summer and he may decide to cut his exposure and take your offer. HEY! If you don't try, you definitely will pay full price.

"Will you make love with me for a million bucks?"
"Sure."
"OK--How about for 100 bucks?"
"What kind of girl do you think I am?"
"We've already established that, now we are just haggling price."

EVERYTHING IS NEGOCIABLE!

What do you guys think of this boat and this price? It is a new 2007, leftover but with zero hours. There is a typo, it is a 4.3L Merc MPI (not a 5.0).
-CUBE-

... i think if you can get it for 15K OTD thats an excellent price. quick math, MPI is an up charge of about 2K, swim platform about 1K, tax at 1200, rigging/doc/ship at 600 plus all full warranties. that has the boat at base of about 11.5K . let me know if you dont go for it :) 09's are at about 30K plus for these...

Dealer is hungry

Im sorry for your loss. And I appreciate your input.
PS. I love this quote!

To the post above this ^ We will try to work him down as much as we can, if we end up going for this boat. I almost feel bad though, this is a NEW boat, at 1/2 the price of what bayliner has for retail. I expect he will not budge AT ALL, but I will do my best and get back to everyone with an update.

(edited to add this) :
While I do all the research on boats and spend time finding them, its my dad that is behind the buying process.
So I told my dad to call the dealer monday and say: "we can not pay anything more than 15K OTD, take it or leave it, here is my number. If you can meet this price call me and we'll be down to get it this weekend" then.... "call the dealer back on friday (if we did not hear from him), and offer a little higher" but basically we would give it a few days from the dealer to give us 15K OTD, and then pay the higher price because we want the boat anyway :)
My dads response to my idea: "this price is already extremely low. the dealer said he can't go lower. If I call and make that offer he will laugh in my face, then by the time I call back on friday and offer to pay full price the boat will be sold, and we will have missed our opportunity"

so...I dont know what to do. My dad doesnt even want to negociate with the dealer....uhhhh. haha. his money, but what would you all do in my situation??????????

The price in ur link was : "Price: $15,723 Reduced" Was that plus all dealer fees, taxes, etc..? Then yup it may be a tuff buy, but ur making an offer and thats how it begins. Even 15.7 OTD is a solid value for b-new.

No. The price is posted is before all additional taxes and fees. Dealer said he would NOT negociate with the price, so basicaly he is saying the final price will be around 17k (I assume), and that is THE LOWEST he will sell for.

The boats that you guys posted look ok....
-We dont want a "wakeboard boat"
-We want back-to-back seating. And both of those Bayliners are on the opposite side of the country! Thatd be a tuff buy.

Thanks though guys. This site keeps getting better :D

Re: another "potential buy" thread - Bayliner 205

Don't know if this will be of much help to you but we purchased our 2005 Bayliner 18.5' bowrider w/a 4.3L Merc for $9,000 (with trailer) a few months ago in Minnesota. It had about 50 hours on it. Frankly I think too many people on this site get WAY too hung up on the absolute best deal before pulling the "buy" trigger. I've yet to meet a male on this planet that didn't think he just about "stole" a cherished item as it relates to price. Just like it's rare to meet the person that loses their *ss out in Vegas. Riiiiggggghhhhhtttttttt!

I like a good deal as much as the next guy, but I always keep a former bosses advice in mind: "How will you feel if it's gone tomorrow?" That usually puts things in perspective.

Good luck!
