help with electrical 3.0

any help with my electrical problem on a 1999 3.0L merc. ser.#ol347755. on a sun tracker 27 pontoon. replaced alternator, battery, new plugs, filter. looked at fuses under console. nothing wrong. heres the problem. voltage gauge fluctuates between 10 and 14 fast. stereo cuts on and off fast. motor shuts off and on fast and when comes back on backfires through carb. the more throttle the worse it gets. starts and idles great. runs great on muffs. any help would be very appreciated. new to sterndrives.

First thing I would do is start checking connections. where the engine harness plugs into the harness going forward is a likely spot.
They usually have a hose clamp on the that should be just snugged down to keep if from pulling loose. I see a lot where people tighten them down till it deforms the plugs and causes problems.
Also check the battery cables (Clean and TIGHT), both cables, both ends.
There is also a plug for the instrument panel that plugs into the harness.
