Re: Johnson/Evinrude 55HP 1977 need advice

Hello I'm trying to figure out what parts I need for my 1977 55HP evinrude and trying to save alittle money by going thru Iboats and getting them. I went by Year / HP / and make in Iboats and came to these selections.

Johnson/Evinrude , 1971-1989 , 1.25-60hp, 1-2 cyl , 2 stroke PART # 1302

Sierra 18-7222 Carb Kit PART # 18-7222

Sierra 18-3376 Water Pump Kit PART # 18-3376

Sierra 18- 3672 Thermostat Kit PART # 18-3672

Are these the right parts for my motor and will this manual work?

Thanks,
Damian

Re: Johnson/Evinrude 55HP 1977

Finally got parts in and the manual from the link above (Thx tashasdaddy).

Need the equivalent of these or a place to get em'
(OMC Adhesive "M" for bottom edge of impeller plate)
(Gasket maker & sealer 1000 for irregular groove on impeller housing)
(I got service removable (blue) Loc-tite for L/U bolts is this okay?)

Carbs: Almost done cleaning and was still wondering about the welch plugs because I'm having the idle prob. Iv'e sprayed with carb cleaner and let sit for couple of nights now and blew them with compressed air. I would let the cleaner pool up in there and let the carb sit at diffrent angles to maximize penetration , then hit it with air. I don't want to do the welch plugs because then I have to take of the linkage off each carb totally , because of risk of hitting those areas with the hammer for welch's. Basiclly do you think I should suck it up and do a total break down including welch's or do you think me sraying/soaking/air at diffrent angles hit those areas enough? If so whats the best way to do the welch's?

LowerUnit: Cleaned up ready for pump. But I was checking out shift rod today and noticed that sometimes in does NOT shift all the way and is slightly rough when I turn driveshaft clockwise. Mostly it shifts fine. Is this common for evinrude lowerunit when off the engine? Also the L/U was at a angle to give clearance for prop might be why but dunno.

Thanks,
Damian
