Suzuki DT4 clutch rod adjustment

Okay, the clutch rod bolt broke on my DT4 outboard. Had to sail back into the slip! Anyway, I pulled the motor, dug out the broken clutch rod bolt and connector parts, and replaced with new parts. Problem is I don't really know where to set the clutch rod connector and don't remember the position of the F-N-R lever at the time of failure. I tried a few settings and the prop doesn't seem to spin with any significant power. Also now when the motor is running, it looks like some water/air bubbles are coming out from the clutch adjustment plug (big rubber stopper). Any advice or suggestions most appreciated since my girl is expecting to go sailing this weekend!

Re: Suzuki DT4 clutch rod adjustment

I think you have to have the clutch in forward in order to properly attach the nut holding the rod together. I had to do this on my dt8c when I changed the impeller and I didn't know exactly how far to screw it in after I reattached the whole thing. At first, I had it too far up where it would barely shift into reverse while running and pop out. I then adjusted it slightly and it worked like normal. Trial and error for me. Hopefully you will get it right the first time.

Thank you newster, I will try some more settings. Anyone have suggestion or concerns about the water/bubbles from the plug port?

same here, I did it last night
not much too it really... trial and error
and it IS easier if you put it in forward gear
