I don't do fiberglass but I know when the wood gets wet you have to rebuild them which requires you take the entire boat apart to fix.

This may be a nice boat but definately have a qualified pro inspect it, if the transom is rotted you will be looking at a MAJOR repair which will take either alot of your time or money.

$100 bucks for an inspection could save you thousands down the road.

27 year old boat, that is underpowered. $3,500 is ridiculous.

I'd say there's a 85.63% chance it has a rotted out transom. The bilge pump coming on every 15 minutes is a pretty bad leak.

Seems pricey based on the description. Quite a few issues that equals $$$. I would hold off and wait for a better deal.

Seems expensive for a small boat with a small engine and good chance of rotted transom and/or stringers.

Main thing I would check would be transom and stringers. If both seem to be in good condition I'd offer maybe $1000. Also, if you plan on doing any water skiing... Well don't, 115 HP I/O is not enough. Getting up will be a pain unless you're a about 100 lbs. Gotta work with the boat to get up with small engines like that. Forget about teaching any normal sized adult to ski behind it, it'll be frustrating as you try to get them up first time but having to make them work with the boat, instead of the boat just pulling them up.

Also, replacing a transom seal is surely gonna be kind of a pain. If you can do it yourself then fine, but you probably won't want to pay someone the dollars they will want to do it for you.

I'll second that opinion, find something else or if it's super clean with a solid transom and deck, then offer them MUCH LESS, I'd be thinking $100 tops if all is well, but even at that it's not all that attractive a boat or deal.

way too much. If it is the transom seal and he had ignored it then transom rot. Not too hard to fix. First pull the outdrive, then the motor, then the gimbal housing and then the transom assembly. While you have it all apart change the bellows as they have been neglected too. Oh if it is the bellows that are actually causing the leak then you'll probably need a new gimbal bearing and u joints, but hey you already got it all apart anyway. Might as well change the lower shift cable while it's all apart too, but you will have to wait to put most of it together first. Oh the transom also has mounted to it the steering and shifting mechanisms. Not too bad to do really.

Way to much money for that boat, I would offer him 1500.00 and go no more than 2000.00 and qualify that with a survey of the transom and hull!
