paint roller question

So after all my sanding and glassing, I was gonna try rolling on a final layer of poly to seal up and prepare for deck paint. About half way I realized the roller started to disentagrate. I now have nap particles all throughout my final layer of poly! I need to sand out and re-do.... What a drag! My question is what type of roller is safe to use with polyester resin? I liked rolling because it gives a nice smooth finish...

Thanks in advance!

Re: paint roller question

Hey,

The rollers you need are called phenolic core rollers
In the painting industry we use them for paints with "hot solvents"
The don't last forever but they don't break down easily.
They're fairly expensive
Hope that helps ya

Re: paint roller question

Will foam rollers work? Like the ones used for West System Epoxy? 10-4 on the phenolic core rollers... Not sure where to get those?

Absolutely ! As Divinciman mentioned phenolic core covers are the key. Look for a cover that has a plastic insert, not cardboard. They can be purchased at most marine stores or online.
Basically they're solvent proof - but they are a use once and throw away item.

Re: paint roller question

I used a poly roller this weekend after experiencing the same problem. It striped the gloss right out. So, good luck and let me know what works. The phenolic core rollers sounds promising.

I'm finished glassing, and am into deck paint. Phenolic roller worked perfect... I used the ones with foam cover.. See results on my project link below...
