Re: Lock In Reverse?

Welcome!

If you are talking about the wide sort of U-shaped stainless steel rod, yes, that's the trailering bracket.

There is also a reverse lock that is engaged via a knob on the transom bracket. I can't remember which way engages it and I don't have my manual at the moment. You should NOT operate in reverse above idle speed without the lock engaged.

NO! NO! NO! If you are talking about the slotted flat plate on the side that drops and locks the engine tilted fully up, DO NOT USE THAT TO TRAILER. You will shear-off one or both of the bolts. It is way too weak to trailer with. The engine WILL drop and do damage.

There was a 1/2 inch steel rod bent into a "U" shape about 5 inches deep and as wide as the transom clamps are spaced, that you slide into the tilt pin holes to trailer the engine.

Underneath the nose of the engine there should be a lever that turns both directions. Attached to the lever and rod should be a thin (less than 1/8 diam.) steel rod that goes down to the pivoting plate. This plate drops down over the tilt pin and locks the engine for reverse operation when you move the lever.

Yep, that's what I was trying to describe. The bar that automatically holds the motor up is NOT what you want to use for trailering, like Frank said.
