we have a cat with a pair of df140's When we reach the trolling grounds we typically put up one engine and troll the other. However, the port engine when up to long in this situation will become stuck in the up position. The only way to get it down is to put weight on the engine while tilting down. While going down there are a few knocks heard. any thoughts?

Re: df140 trim-tilt problems

I had the same problem with my 98 dt140, got to the point where it wouldn't go up or down. A local mechanic suggested taking the trim unit apart and cleaning it. He said there is a very fine gray sludge that builds up for an unknown reason. I decided to rebuild the unit using parts ordered from http://www.brownspoint.com since I was going to be taking it apart anyway. Got it apart and there was the fine gray sludge the mechanic told me about. Cleaned it all up and replaced the o-rings ect. and now it works like new. The hardest part was finding a spanner wrench to take the caps off the tops of the cylinders. Ended making my own from a piece of
3/16" X 1 1/2" flat bar and bolts. Hope this helps and good luck
