Follow the hoses from the bottom of the heads down to the t-stat housing.

Re: 1986 90 HP T-stat question

What is the big plate for between the set of cylinders? I broke off a few bolts while removing that plate looking for the T-stat. now what?

Thanks,
Joe

That big plate is the exhaust cover (the one with ninetybrazillion fasteners on it). If you only broke off a couple (meaning two and they're not right next to each other), you can probably get by just letting sleeping dogs lie, but it'd still be best to remove them.

Re: 1986 90 HP T-stat question

I broke 4 of them 2 are next to one another! I got the first plate off but no further.
so I should take the next plate off to grab the stud, pb blast them and hopefully extract them!
the gaskets between all the seprate plates should be replaced?

Thanks,
Joe

Yes you should. There are two gaskets. You'll have more luck with a torch and vice-grips than with pb-blaster. Heat 'em up good.

you've got 4 to get out now, what difference is a couple of others going to make.
