HI!! Everyone I am new here, and I know this has been ask a 100 times. But I have a 93 or 94 100 Evinrude. I had abroblem with it not starting and running. I though it was the carbs need rebuilt. The man at the shop said it was the vro pump was putting to much oil in. Can that happen? So it went from 200.00 to 800.00. I am retired and cann't hand that so after reading the posts here. Can I unhook the vro and pre mix, or is there a better way [cheaper] to fix the vro? If so are there some parts # you can give me. Roger

Re: Vro

The pump can over-oil but it is usually caused by an air leak on the gasoline side or, by a failure of the pump.

If the pump fails, the oil side and the electronics cannot be rebuilt but the gasoline side can be rebuilt so that the pump can be used for a pre-mix pump.

To see if there is a leak, keep steady pressure on the primer bulb while carefully inspecting the lines and the pump for leaks. The idea is that if gas can get out, air can and will get in when the pump is running.

Re: Vro

I have a 1988 140 hp VRO and it does the same thing but I notice the oil line seems moist. Could the oil line cause the same problem or is it just the fuel line?

I think I have a VE100SLETS. It is a 93. If I do the pre-mix thing, should I get a 6 gal. portable tank and a new line and hook-up. I have a big built in tank put I am afraid I will not get the mix right. Do I just plug the oil line to run the pre-mix. Roger P.S. If I find a cheap vro pump is it hard to put on?

Re: Vro

I converted from VRO to premix last summer when my VRO pump started failing. I will post the link for you shortly.

Thanks for the link Kenmyfam. Hope you got a good rest. I was reading the link and I hope i,m not in over my head. Will I have to change carbs? I don't know anything about a pulse line. I was going to plug the oil line and just run pre-mix. Will that work?

I'm sorry I didn't mean the carb, I was talking about the vro pump. Can I plug the oil line and use it that way with pre-mix, or do I need a new pump? If so what kind. Roger

I used the OEM premix pump for mine but the aftermarket was around $20 cheaper. Some folk plug the oil side and run premix through the fuel side, however I feel that if one side goes out then the other may not be far behind. I have my old pump as a spare now.
By the way I answered your P.M.

Re: Vro

Converting the VRO pump to pre-mix is a good choice for two reasons: first, it costs nothing to do; and secondly, the gasoline side of the VRO pumps are rebuildable. Once you convert to premix, the only risk is that you may forget to add the oil when purchasing additional gasoline.

Additionally, the VRO pump is far more powerful than any lift pump.

I posted this in 09. I went to the premix and it worked great. What I wanted to know is now I took the tank out and unhooked the wires. Will this cause me any problem? Also how in the world you shut this ### horn off? Thanks for yor time. Gametrail
