Marine Water Pump and Headgasket, why ?

I am reassembling a 350 SBC OMC 1980 with freshwater cooling. Do I need marine headgasket and water pump.

With freshwater cooling I can't figure out why but I am sure you guys can fill me in.

if you have closed cooling, you don't really need the marine version of either.
The antifreeze helps the automotive parts resist corrosion.

I would think all good quality sbc headgaskets you could buy today (FelPro etc) would have stainless fire rings and such and would be fine in any marine setup anyways.

Ayuh,...

I haven't seen a steel shim gasket in Years,.... Most Everything is Composite...

The "Marine Headgasket" myth just won't Die....

Come right down to it,..
The only headgaskets that Aren't,+ never were Marine were only the steel shim gaskets...

I'm with HS,... Any Quality composite gasket will work for You...

I can't figure out why NAPA's head gaskets are so inexpensive compared to Ebay, etc. Usually they are more.

Is a Fel PRO a super duper, must have, head gasket or are the NAPA's Ok

everybody wants to sell their product, who ever puts the best sells pitch out there will sell more product, potatoes pototoes ,composite makes no difference in my opinion .
