Per the manual all the zerks on my MR outdrive requires 2-4-c grease and the gimble bearing requires u joint/gimble bearing grease.

Went to walmart they had nothing that said 2-4-c all they had was general marine coastal marine grease and super tech general marine grease....both said for like trailer bearings etc..

so where in the heck without ordereing do I find the correct grease and also not going a hour drive to a boat marine seller.

also if I order off iboats. they have quicksilver 2-4-c grease...but what about u joint/gimble bearing grease...what are you guys using that iboats has to offer?

Go to your nearest Merc dealer, or call them and have it sent.

Yeah I'll just make my way there this weekend. Ok I know I'll need the quicksilver 2-4-c for all of the zerks except the gimble bearing zerk according to the service manual...question is does quick silver make a grease for the u joint/gimble bearing?

if so what is it? I haven't found it on iboats.com's marine store...

thanks don

They are the ONLY ones that have it as far as I know.

PS: Pick yourself up a tube of Spline grease at the same time. It's used on the coupler splines. It came out after the manuals, so you won't find it there.

thanks, but I'm still unclear on the u joint/gimble bearing grease...haven't seen such a animal thats made by quicksilver mercury....haven't even seen it on iboats.

I know I need their quicksilver 2-4-c but according to the manual you use a different grease for the u joint/gimble bearing.

iboats doesn't carry all the Merc OEM stuff.

They are the ONLY ones that have it as far as I know.

I should have said "Mercruiser" is the only ones that have it.

Do you have a bass pro shop close by? I picked some up there. I believe it was called quicksilver u-joint and gimbal bearing grease. I got 3 3 oz. canisters for $7 bucks (I think). This was in Feb of 2009. Lots of other good boating goodies to pick up too.

Oh yeah, they have the 2-4-c too, but I got a squeeze tube of that from my local merc dealer.

How essential is it to use actual propshaft grease on the propshaft? Seems like grease is grease?

Next time, give them a call on the phone first before doing all that driveing.

Let me guess, you forgot to have them order you some, didn't you?

http://www.mercurypartsexpress.com/us/lubricants-c62.html

Don, just ordered some I went to wholesalemarine.com and noticed they had both the correct 2-4-c and the gimble bearing grease...

so I ordered both! weird thing is I ordered both types in the 3 pack of 3.5oz tubes...the 2-4-c and the u joint/gimble bearing grease were the same price of $8.73 kinda weird huh? usually the 2-4-c is a lot higher..

whats also weird is I ordered the actual mercury/mercruiser brand of them part numbers 92-802861A-1 for the 2-4-c and 92-802871A-1 for the gimble bearing/u joint grease...and these part numbers/mercury brand ones were cheaper on their site than the quicksilver version of them?!????

I know quicksilver packaged things and mercury packaged things are the same really but I woulda figured the quicksilver woulda been cheaper but on their site the mercury brand was..

I might call them tomorrow to see if their site is right and that I am actually getting what it said I am supposed to receive because that seemed a bit off to me.

any thoughts on it?
