yes, that seal can be changed. finding a new seal. or more correctly, someone to sell you one, can be tricky. most places will tell you that you need to change the whole assy.

I`m thinking he means the engine circ pump . If so you will need to replace it as a unit.

The 2000 model VP engines have an engine driven raw water pump. It does have a weep hole and they will leak there. You can replace the seal. Not sure what the condition of the bearing will be, but the seal is replaceable.

I think I found the same problem and I want to fix it myself. You can see the steady stream of water beneath the raw water pump. Is this what your leak looked like? I just can't believe a pump would wear out after 6 years of relatively minimal use each summer. Is this normal?!

I've got a 4.3VP build 2002 I'm pretty sure. The impeller's never been changed. I just noticed the leak this passed weekend after hooking it up to the hose and ear muffs after storing for the winter.

How long of a job was it for you?

Re: Raw Water Pump Seal

This was not bad at all and if you are mechanically inclined you can do this in about 1 hour tops. Just remove the impeller bracket then the impeller housing 4 small brass bolt then remove the fan belts then the 3 large allen bolts on the pulley then remove the pulley and gently remove the center seal without scraping the shaft replace the seal part #827247 the sealing ring $8 bucks at the dealer or you can order it right here. I would replace my impeller and o ring while you are there. You can do it. If you have any questions I will be happy to help KKlowrider

Re: Raw Water Pump Seal

So, the sealing ring replacement looks to have solved my leak problem. Not a drop feel into the bilge when I started it up. I'll follow this reply up with my experience- Thanks KKlowrider for your instructions; couldn't have done it without you!

Question now is, I thought I read somewhere that I should be seeing water spit out of the exhaust/ prop. When I started her up after fixing the seal, and ran her on the ear muffs with a little water running there was no water misting or anything coming out of the exhaust.

Now, I don't remember water coming out if there last year when I started it on the ear muffs either.

I double checked everything, inlet and outlet hose installation, direction of impeller (replaced with new), hoses pointing down, etc. but don't know how I could have done this backwards.

Maybe because I didn't let the engine run long enough that water did not have time enough to circulate in the engine after having been drained during installation?

Any thoughts?
