weird noise in lower unit

after prop change due to a spun hub my nerc 165 outdrive has a weird sound in it, sounds somewhat like a manifold leak in a auto motor ,lol, sorry dont know any other way to discribe it , the prop i put back on there was the same one i took off . any suggestions sure would be appresiated and helpfuf because i aim stumped bigtime on this one.

Pull the prop off of it and look at the edge of the prop nearest the drive. Many times after a new hub is installed they may just touch the drive. Shouldn't hurt anything as long as the prop hub isn't in off center.

i forgot to reinstall the spacer before i put the prop back on ,whew , thought i had big problems again , i have had so many problrms out of this outdrive since i have had this boat . but thanks don ,bondo,cheif , now i can fish my catfish tounament without any more issues i hope. james river catfishing club .thanks george

pulled prop off,no spacer, doumb a-----s me for got to remove it from spun hub prop, it was stuck up in there lol,i check gear oil for shavings , nothing there thank goodness,i thinking the worst because ive had a lot of problems outa this outdrive since ive had this boat. put spacer back in and all is good so far , thanks again guys for your help, george

I didn't read the post where you apparently posted the original problem - did you update that post? Glad you found the problem, but be sure to update the original thread so that others may know what happened.


EDIT: I see Don or someone combined the posts. I put this in now so someone doesn't read this dfown the road and wonder what the heck I am writing about!

You mean the thrust washer?

Without that thrust washer, had you actually tightened the prop nut down tight, you wouldn't have been able to turn the prop, you said you only had a slight tick. How could that happen ???????

Could he have run out of thread before the the prop locked up against the housing.

yes don i tightened it down and i could still turn the prop and the shaft , what it was doing was the back of the prop housing was rubbing the shaft housing and causing the metal to metal noise , dont quiet know the correct terminolgy but you guts know what in talking about im sure, sorry.
