STARTER..350 mercruiser

not sure on year of motor but just replaced in 07 just bought it but i was on the water the other day everything was fine turned it off to go cuddy in the cuddy cabin came out a few minutes later and turned the key....nothing.... nothing again.... then i used my pack to check if was a dead batt. nope but i only read 12 volts. gave a tap on the starter boom got fire. then it wouldnt turn my crank like it was trying to start at all i was told it might be the bendix? in the starter....so i start to remove the starter and ive taken three bolts off and my starter still wont budge do i need to bump my starter? to get it loose maybe im not sure but any help would be appreciated thanks guys

What 3 bolts? 2 bolts and the flywheel cover got to be removed or, the ear cut off.

Ayuh,...

Hard to say just What you're doin',... There's only 2 bolts holding the starter on...

well how many bolts are on the flywheel cover? there was a small nut on the front of the starter then i removed two bolts from the starter which are about 2 1/2 in. long. do i remove the numerous 7/16 bolts on the flywheel cover????

The dust cover does not have to be removed to change the starter.
It sounds like the correct bolts have been removed so the starter may need a slight tap if theres corrosion holding it in place.dust cover has 6-8 bolts and 2 are all but impossable to get to with the engine in the boat..

That little nut on the front of the starter attaches to a small bracket. The starter has to come slightly forward and down to come out. Sounds like you have not completely loosened/removed the little bracket. Two long screws into the block, small strap with bolt and nut on the front. Thats all you need to remove the starter. Be sure the battery cables are off the batteries!! They are hot at the starter.

ah now i get it thanks so much for all the help guys i can overthink the situation a little too much sometimes lol
