Carpet Questions

Just finished building a couple of consoles to change my side console fishing boat to a full walk through windshield set up.

I am in the process of starting to carpet the boxes, hatches and the dash. (to match the rest of the boat which is already carpeted...)

I have upholstered before, but never with carpet. My question is how do I carpet a hatch cover with a rounded edge? I believe I know how to handle the 90 degree angles, but I am having a tough time visualizing how to handle curves?

Not sure what you mean by "curves". Have the edges been routered ?
Or, have the corners been cut on a curve (radius) rather than square ?

I'm in the process of doing my hatch covers right now. I found the easiest was is the remove the hatch cover, lay the carpet face down, spread the glue on the hatch cover and lay it on the carpet. I stood on the hatch cover to make sure the glue penetrated into the carpet. After the glue cures (per the label) simply use a razor knife and cut the carpet around the perimeter of the hatch cover. This way you have a perfect fit.

Thanks again. I wanted to wrap the edges of the hatch so I don't see the plywood edges. Looks like you are describing to trim it at the edge.

The only hatch cover I am going to wrap will be the rod locker. You can use the same proceed as I described. Trim the carpet leaving enough to wrap the hatch cover, cut the corners at an angle, fold the carpet over the cover and glue and staple it to the wood. The will give you a nice clean finished look. Remember though that the folded carpet may make the hatch cover real tight, you may have to trim the cover by a little bit to compensate for this. Maybe 1/8" trim cut depending on the thickness of your carpet. I would experiment before final glueing.
