I just bought a 96 celebrity 190. i was really looking over the hook up for the ski rope, is this strong enough to pull me (6'6" 230) out of the water, from what i can tell its just two bolts that run into the transom. there are no cracks around it at all just seems kind of small to me? Has anyone ever had any problems with these? should i make sure that the bolts stay tight on it?

thanks!

Re: Ski eye hook

There should be some backing behind the fiberglass on the bilge area were the bolts attach to the transom. If not I would add some. Fiberglass is incredibly strong though.

Mine has a metal brace that is about two feet side to side and is also bolted thru the transom. Lift the engine cover or access to the inside back to the transom and see if there are not supports. So there are three bolt points on mine. You might be able to tell by looking at the transom from the outside too. the bolts look like the heads of stove bolts on mine. If you look close you can see the bolts in this picture at the bottom of beginning and end of ."Own-IT".

The ski eye on mine also has a great big washer on the underside.

Re: Ski eye hook

Backing usually is a big fender washer under the two nuts or a piece of flat steel that spans across the two. Anything that will give a bigger footprint or make it have more surface area to pull against. I have had two tubes with two adults on each tube on mine and not had any issues at all. They are pretty stout but worth a look to see what is behind there if its just a small washer on each stud might want to reinforce a bit.
