I have a 2003 model 1802 trophy bayliner walkaround with a teleflex cable that is very hard to turn with. I took it loose from the motor and the motor turns very easily. I want to buy a new cable but I'm uncertain of the length of the cable if I had to estimate I would say 14'. Does anyone know for sure the correct length cable I need? I'm hoping to use the existing cable this summer but want to buy a spare just in case I need it. I do plan on changing out this cable but hopefully not until this next winter.

Re: 1802 trophy stiff steering

I was going to do the same thing with my 1994 Sunbird. I figured the cost of the cable (kit with rack) at about 225.00 and my time to tear out the old one and install the new one.

Then I found out the motor had to be taken off to do this, plus all the labor routing that cable. My mechanic did it for about 225.00. I am not a backyard mechanic, however this project seemed allot more complicated than than just pulling one out and zipping another in and connecting the ends.

Just my thoughts...make sure your up to it. I am sure the job would have taken me better part of 10+ hours and allot of cursing.

Somtimes you pay the professionals...they do it allot faster and you know it works.

If you have any doubt on the condition of the steering cable, replace it now. Not something to have suddenly go wrong. FRED
