1990 johnson 120hp vro

hi i diconnected the vro on my 120hp johnson and i just pluged the line and removed the resevior and diconected the wires, is that all i have to do? also after running the motor with ear muffs for a few minutes, i had a buzzer come on, it would buzz then stop, and them keep doing that, is that a indcation my water pump may need replacing?

That is more likely to be that the VRO pump wiring is still connected.

You probably disconnected the oil tank but the pump has a second harness that needs to be disconnected. The amphenol plug is usually tucked behind the PT&T relay box on the port side of the engine.

When you disconnect it, tape both parts of the plug in case someone decides to reinstall the oil system later.

hi thanks for the tip, i looked at the motor, and there is a small harness with three wires that comes from the oil injection i am asuming that is the one? also is the fuel pump electric or vacum?

The fuel pump (VRO, VRO2 or OMS) is mechanical in operation, taking the pulse that drives it from the movement of a piston.

Yes, the three wire amphenol running from the VRO2 pump to the main harness is the one to be disconnected.

One additional thing that you may want to check is that the pulse limiter is blue and gold and not solid black or brass.

hi thanks again for the help disconected it ran the motor and no buzzing, but it did not buzz when i connected the battery and tured teh ignition key on? is that normal, also i was not sure what you ment by the pulse limeter? this is a new motor for me i am used to the older motors. thanks for the help.

You want to be sure that the warning horn will still work if the engine overheats; put the ignition key in run position and ground the two tan wires at the cylinder heads to the block.

The tan wires should have quick disconnects a few inches from the cylinder heads. Ground the control ends of the wires to sound the horn.
