How much grease in bearing buddies

I removed my trailer's bearing buddies and cleaned everything up. I bought the marine bearing grease in those small 8" tubes. Each tube holds 3 ounces of grease. I put one tube in each bearing buddy and didn't see the inner sleve expand out. It still slid out some when I pulled the grease gun off the fitting and then sprung back in. I don't want to blow out the rear seals. Can those buddies hold more than 3 ounces of grease. What to do?

Keep adding until the inner sleeve stays out. Then check often after the first few uses. It will probably take a little more.

There is out, and then there is OUT.

Just enough so that the spring just begins to compress, no more.

on the better brand bearing buddies, there is a small hole, that when the spring is back enough and the bearing is full, grease will start to come out. i usually go to that point the first time, then just give em a pump every now and then.

It is not just the bearing buddy itself that holds grease. The entire hub contains the grease and if you started from scratch with clean hubs, it would hold probably three of those tubes if you actually packed the entire cavity full (which obviously is not necessary).

According to Buddy Bearing, you can't put too much It will simply ooze out if you do. When you fill them watch the fitting move out about 1/8". Its only a guess. Then push the disk that the fitting is on all sides to see if it compresses slightly. If it does, you're good to go.

Dont clean the oozed out grease with your finger - You'll get a nice cut!
