bought a small boat last fall, light, single axle trailer type of deal. trailer has brand new hubs and freshly packed bearings courtesy of the previous owner just before he sold it to me. for christmas, i got a pair of nice new stainless bearing buddies to put on my new [old] trailer.

the grease i have around, for my OTHER boat and trailer is your typical, marine store, lubri-mate brand of calcium sulfonate grease like they have on the shelves at boater's world and wally world.

the grease on my trailer with the new hubs and bearings is more light brown in color, almost like coffee with a little bit of cream. i don't know enough about greases to know it's type just by looking, but i'm sure some old hats can tell in a jiff...

...sooo...hoping one of you can tell me if:

a] what kind of grease the "coffee with cream" grease is
or
b]is it compatible with lubrimate calcium sulfonate grease?

sounds either like regular auto grease or maybe it got a little water in it, either way I would pull the hubs clean all the old grease out, regrease and install the buddy bearings.....if it were me.

If the hubs are the type that old greese squirts out the back when new greese is pushed in the front I'd just pump them up. Within a few months and pumps the existing greese will work it's way thru.

Ayuh,...

It's probably plain ole bearing grease,.. Without the Dyes some suppilers use...
I wouldn't worry about the Mixability of it....

Most greases that Most people have access to mix quite well...

which is why I said to start over, I've mixed grease and oils without any issue but I ain't no engineer either so I could be wrong.
