The one on the left. I'm thinking some type of female oriole. I saw one in a tree a few days ago and not knowing what is it is bugging me. I can name most local birds but I think this one is visiting from out of town.;)

You are right. Female on left and male on right. This is the best time of year to see the differance in color between the males and females for many species.

Can't help with the identification but that's a great photo.

The one on the right is not a Cedar Waxwing. I'm not sure what it is, but both male and female Cedar Waxwing look like the one on the left. The only difference in appearance between the male and female, is a dark patch under the chin of the male. From the angle shown, its hard to tell which the bird in the pic is - it actually could be a male.

So, now we have another bird trivia question - which is always fun. Anyone know what the second one is?

There are many bird idenification sights on the net. One of the best is http://www.birds.cornell.edu/AllAboutBirds/.
Keep a backyard bird log book. My daughter told me "dad, I could tell you were getting old when you stopped shooting birds and started feeding them.".

The one on the right is a male Baltimore Oriole (female not quite as brilliant but similar) and Cedar waxwing on the left both species are common in Ohio the oriole a little less but I have them around each year, I think the oriole is the coolest looking bird we have around right next to the Scarlet Tanagier, Blue Jays, Cardinals, and the whole host of beautiful songbirds, I just love that photo, too bad there wasn't a Bluebird (not blue jay) in there too.

I was identifying the bird on the left as a Cedar Waxwing. The bird on the right is clearly an Oriole. :)

Not my photo btw but yes, it is a nice one. A waxwing never crossed my mind but it's not that common around here. Thanks!

I was really hoping there might be a male oriole nearby, even nailed some orange halves near the feeder. I've only seen one in my entire life.

Ok, I stand corrected... I just walked out to the mailbox and there were over 20 of those things in the same tree that I saw the first one in. I guess the first one was a scout.:D

By the way do you have them Armadillos around there? I would like to see one that han't had it's guts splayed out in the road.
We have coons around my area that are pretty cool but would realy like to have an armadilla. I've only seen one or two in my life and that was during summer trips to Fla. to see my mom and they were smashed on the highway.
I've always enjoyed catching anoles at my mom's I would trap the little guys with paper tubes pipes and wahtever I could conjure up. Then bring a couple back to Ohio and keep as pets in my bavarium, I've had this one i caught for about 6 years now.

i can catch an armadillo and send it to ya if you like........they are everywhere down here in oklahoma.......when i was a kid we would find them on the side of the road.....and if they werent smashed like you described their legs stick straight out when they are dead..................their front legs hold a beer bottle perfectly...........one night we probably set at least a dozen up with beer bottles.............it looks hilarious ---- like they fell out drinking.

ill get you some pics!!....dead and alive.

C'mon over to my house. I have "dillers," possums, raccons, rabbits, snakes and "the mosquito air force" in my yard at night. You can take whatever you want home.

Well, except for my neighbor's chickens. She might have to "kill" you for messin' with her chickens!

If you want an 'dilla, I will catch one and send to you. They gather around here and root all through the yards looking for worms. My kids have been known to place chicken liver out and wait for one to come see what the smell is. they are pretty blind and easy to sneak up on.

You know why you always see them swuased on the road? Because when they get scared, they tend to jump up, right under the car....

Huh, I didnt know birds liked oranges.

Well they like berries so I guess its not far-fetched. Hell, if they can eat McDonalds fries they can eat anything!

Re: Can somebody ID this bird?

Have them dilla's ever been made as pets raised from babies?
I've had all sorts of weird pets some illegal.
I raised a Great Horned Owl from a baby, it ended up being taken from me by the Division of Wildlife after terrorizing some ladys cat (she just wanted me in trouble)
I had raised a Red Tailed Hawk that stayed around the whole Summer and eventually got wild.
My wife worked as an assistant vetrenarian at an animal hosp. and was always bringing orphans home, heck we raised a skunk! squirells, coons, a fawn with only three leggs.
All these were eventally turned loose where they belong wild and free.

Exept the fawn who lives in a Licenced petting Zoo now.

Isn't a armadillo just a possum on the half shell?:p

Orioles must cuz every photo I've seen of one it's gnawing on an orange.:D Funny thing them fries... birds will fight over them. Maybe I should fill the feeder with those LOL. 'Course then I'd have a bunch of fat finches hanging around.
