Just picked up a 96 Evinrude 115 as a replacement for a 99 Johnson 115.

Unfortunately the harness on the rude is the old style round plug and won't mate up w/my new style binnacle. Is there an engine end adapter that will go from the round plug to the multiple plugs of the new style harness or am I forced to either splice or run an entirely new harness?

Your input (and part #'s ;) )greatly appreciated!

Thanks for the response.

The only pigtail I've been able to find is to convert from the OLD binnacle to NEW engine harness. All the dealers I've spoken to want to sell me a $170 converter that has a 20' run to the new style binnacle but has the old plug on the engine end. I thought I was in luck when I spoke to Dixie marine in Miami but turns out they sold me this $70 part

which is an engine end converter from the OLD binnacle style to the NEW engine harness. (part # 176349)

Is there another dealer out there that might be able to help? - I've scoured google to no avail.

Kit # 176346 has the female round red plug with about eight feet of cable and the post 1996 harnesses are the other end.

There are also connectors in the kit for the PT&T and VRO/OMS. The kit also includes the wiring adapters for the system chech warnings.

What is the model number of your replacement 115?

That's great - appreciate the part # - reduces the $$ pain somewhat!

My last question (famous last words ;) ) - do you think I'll be able to splice into all wires that are currently at the "engine end" easily or am I better served running this to the binnacle controls?

Edit - will get the model # for you this afternoon.

The kit that I have has only eight feet of length to connect between the helm and the engine's large red male plug, the PT&T harness plug and the fuel pump alarm system. So for the most part, it depends on what you have running from your control to that eight foot length as to the amount of splicing necessary.

There are different length red plug extension cords available.

The model # on the rude is E115ELEOC.

In an ideal world I'd like to be able to take whatever kit I get and simply plug the round female connector into the rude's old style round plug and then run 1' or so lengths of pig-tail into the new style connectors on the engine end to the connectors pictured below. Is this a realistic hope or are the new style connectors in the kit you mentioned above male vs the female that might be necessary (see my attached photo for clarification).

And my reason for not wanting to run wires all the way back to the console is due to the infamous 2" run in my Mako 211 and the typical rat's nest that awaits any wires on the other end of the run...

I asked for the model number to clarify; your replacement motor is a 1995 model which explains the wiring difference. A 1996 would have had the new wiring.

If you can find a dealer with the proper resources, he can show you the wiring diagrams before you shell out the money for the harness.

I would use the dealer locator to get the list of service/parts departments in your area: http://dealerlocator.evinrude.com/EN/?Rnd=1172157085156

Take the third choice and use only your area code for the largest list.

Ezeke - you've been most helpful - thank you!

I don't suppose you could find out the part #'s for the longer runs? Now that I'm mentally prepared I guess I'd better just bite the bullet and do the thing properly...
