I have an older minn kota pd that doesn't slow all the way down with the speed control. What I need to know is if the older pd motors would slow all the way down to a complete stop like my newer model does? Any suggestions would be of help.

I purchased the motor new in 1999. It is a 55lb on 12volt system.

It probably doesn't use speed coils but has a tad more sophisticated control system that may be the problem. Before getting too concerned though, remove the prop and check for fish line wrapped very tightly around the shaft. I've seen line wrapped so tight the prop was really hard to spin. It also means the motor is drawing much more current than normal so the battery is taking a beating as well.

The motor runs great. The problem is that when I use the speed slide on the foot pedal the motor will not slow down to a crawl like I think it should. If I use the same pedal on my newer pd motor it will slow down to a very slow speed, or to complete stop on 0 setting.

You probably have a bad pedal. Can you borrow one to try? They are about $75.
