1987 mercruiser 454 thunderbolt iv, just did valve job, put back together starts then dies. have 12v at coil. help

start at the basics... what is your compression on all 8 cylinders?

i have good compression and everything seems to check out ok on ignition troubleshoot, i swapped out carb and put new fuel pump in. where to go from here?

Are you familiar with starting a carbed engine? It's not like an EFI car engine.

Did you go to the Adults only sticky at the top of this forum? Read the list. there is one on starting carbed engines.

Ayuh,... It takes Fuel, Fire, Air, Compression, at the right Time, to run a motor...

You're loosing 1 of them.... Only You can find Which 1....

You still have to give it some throttle to keep it running, rather the cable is hooked up or not. Use your hand toi operate the throttle of the carb.

i havent got to check for spark at coil tower yet, i just happen to notice 12v on neg side as well as on pos side should there be 12v on both sides
