New Fuel Sender

When I purchased my boat the fuel gauge didn't work. I just installed a new sender, I hooked it up and checked that it worked properly with the gauge before putting it in the tank and it worked like a charm.

When I turn off the master switch the gauge pegs over on the full side instead of going to the empty side, is this normal?

Some fuel gauges have a needle that "floats" so wherever it ends up is not a problem. If yours slams over to full when you turn off the master switch, you have a short that essentially connects the sender terminal to +12V so you have a wiring issue. In fact, the gauges should not even be connected to the master switch. All gauges should be powered from the ignition switch. The master switch controls the boat accessories.

Thanks for the reply. I'll get my multimeter out and do some checking on the wiring.
