Re: Shifting Issues
sounds like you just removed the lower. is that correct?
if so, you can put it together in any condition. f,n, r.
for the sake of easy. have the helm in fwd and the lower in fwd too. fwd. on the lower is when the prop locks ccw. it will ratchet cw. reverse is opposite. whatever ya do. the helm and the lower need to be the same.
if you removed the drive. you must be in fwd to get the drive off or on. the shift shaft coupler must be facing fwd.
sometimes it's easy to loose fwd on the lower while reassembling it. to help keep the lower in fwd. i use a bungee to load the prop in the ccw direction. (learned that from bondo, and works good)
when in fwd. the prop will lock ccw and ratchet cw
when in neutral, the prop will freewheel either direction
when in revers. the prop will lock cw and ratchet ccw.
so far it sounds like your not having the helm and the drive in the same condition. fwd. would be the thicket. might as well get in the habit of fwd. when removing the drive as it's essential for removing the whole drive.
When Remove the drive the shiftcable moves and the shift arm. Once I put the drive on she wont move. Any Ideas Im going nuts here.
with the drive off. try and shift the drive on the bench. if it don't comply with the above statement. the lower and upper are out of time so to speak, separate them and see if the lower shifts manually. if so, put everybody if fwd. and reassemble..
one other thought. the shift slide spins easy on the shift cable. when putting the drive back on, you must be sure the slide stays in it's proper place and don't rotate so it stays mated to the shift lever...
