Hello! Anyone know of some quality carpet available online, and perhaps what glue is the best?

Re: New Carpet?

Cabelas has boat carpet online.

However, we re-did my son's boat about 5 years ago with inexpensive carpet from Wal-Mart that seems to have stood the test of time so far. It is the plasticy stuff intended to be glued on your front doorstep or patio so intended for the outdoors. It was glued on over new marine plywood floors with glue that I got at Home Depot intended for that sort of thing. No problems yet. Dark grey and it has not faded either.

Re: New Carpet?

Cabelas has good stuff. I used the 20oz carpet with outdoor carpet adhesive. Contact cement also works well. Only thing i don't like about contact cement is the instant bond. You can't reposition it if you screw up. I screw up a lot :). The problem with the carpet adhesive is its long curing time. If you have vertical surfaces it can be a challenge.

Re: New Carpet?

I bought some carpet from Overtons.com because it came in 8.6' width. The carpet manufacture is Lancer Enterprises out of Dalton Georgia. This carpet is 20 oz. marine grade @ $10.99 a running foot. Boating Magazine also did a article last month about this carpet and got good reviews. It is not installed yet because I just got it back from stringer and deck replacement.

Overtons seems to be cheaper than Cabela's and I recieved it in less than a week...

Overtons will also send you free samples. I got samples of the 16 and 20 but now wish i would have got a sample of the 24oz as it looks different. Is it possible to use the standard long cure time on the flat surfaces and let it dry and use contact cement on the sides and vertical surfaces?

Re: New Carpet?

Thanks for all the replies!

The carpet I tore out is 10x10, but it seems like almost all carpet is available in 6 and 8' sections. I'd imagine if I went to menards, they'd have something available, but I live in a small town, so I have to travel to do that.

So my new question is, anyone sell 10' sections? (Sorry I didn't specify in my first post)
