I am having a starting issue. Although all batteries are charged I can hear a 'clicking sound' coming from the area just above the water separator. I can take 10-15 turns of the ignition before the clicking noise stops and the engine will turn over????

First time poster, and not very mechanical.

Hoping for an easy inexpensive fix!

thanks

Courtesy of DonS in adults only sticky: HOW TO: Troubleshooting your engines starting system. Check all connections at battery, starter and block ground posts and the slave solenoid. Clean and shiny. Then start the troubleshooting guide...

That little relay is called the "slave" it triggers the main solenoid on the starter.

Simply amazing how many starting issues can be solved by having clean dry connections. Go through and clean ALL connections with a wire brush. Then consult proper troubleshooting guide in adults only sticky

Have Fun!

I've found this job can be made easier in a lot of cases by using a wire brush that fits a cordless drill, you can get em at ACE or someplace like that. You can polish it up better and faster than you can very easily with a hand brush. Sometimes you can't fit it where it needs to go, but 9 times out of 10 it will save a lot of time.
