I have a 1996 Johnson 200 Venom, the problem I have is on cold startup first time of the day it will idle ok, rev up tp 2000 RPM's ok, but when you put it in forward and try to take off it boggs and will not accelerate or plane. I have to idle for a while until it starts to finally take the gas and plane. The rest of the day starts and accelerates fine. I put a new power pack on it with no change. Need help on what to do.

when were the carbs last cleaned and rebuilt. the mid and high speed jets are in the bottom of the float bowls, and can get clogged.

Thanks for the replys, The thermastats should be in place. Not sure they may be actually working but i'll have them checked.

The carbs have never been cleaned but i'll take it to my mechanic and let him clean them next.

Ok, I have checked the thermostats they open at 130deg F. and close when cooling off.
Took the boat to the mechanic and he checked the motor out and found carbs seem fine, he did find #2 and 6 not firing, changed out my new power pac with his and did the same no fire on 2 and 6. After the engine was warm 2 and 6 started firing and continued to fire. His thought is the the trigger is going bad. Will look into replacing the trigger after my next 2 weekend tournaments if it dosen't go completly out before then.

Ok, took the boat to another mechanic and he was to put a used trigger on my motor. he replaced the trigger, stater, and my new power pac and the motor still missed but, not on the same cylinders all the time. After trying everything he could think of he washed my parts (trigger and stater) and blew them off with air (because there was somthing sticky on the triggger) and reinstalled all my orginal parts, now the motor purs like a kitten, no more stalling on cold start, all we can think of is that something was on the trigger keeping the sensors from reading the timing correctly. Fishing yesterday and no problems, hopfully this fixed the problem.
