I got stuck with this problem for the previous boat owner. The guy completely rebuilt the motor with new rings, gaskets, seals, etc. Because the engine only had 50 psi in the cylinders. Now they have 120 psi. The engine will not idle down from 2000 rpm unless you retard the timing to -10. I have cleaned and recleaned the plastic carbs three times looking for problems with no luck, I have installed new needle and seat and floats. The butterflies are completely closed and the roller is not touching the cam. Since there is not an adjustment on these carbs what do I do? With the timing set at 3-5 BTDC the engine runs great and pops the boat right out of the water. But it is VERY hard to get it in and out of gear. If I set the timing to 10 ATDC (idles at 650 in the water) it bogs really bad out of the hole and idles rough. But does clear up and runs good after a few mins and cleans out. I have sprayed carb clean around all of the gasket areas and have not been able to find an air leak. Any ideas what I should do next? Thanks in advance.
