Hello everyone, newbie here and hoping to get some info on a problem my in law has with his 2004-2005 Mercury 115 2 stroke as I am unsure if they are avail. with 4 strokes??? Long story short, he added a multi-purpose 2 stroke for the fuel mix instead of the Opti-max synthetic (Sold out) and did not realize that the motor used up the multi-purpose oil 3 times as fast. It lost partial power out on the lake before shutting down automatically on him twice and he topped off the oil with the this oil again and shut down on him. He plans to take it in the shop, but I am curious if the computer protected the motor and maybe ruined the rings or if just needs to flush the system - gas and try to start with the Opti-max. He meant to purchase the Marine grade 2 stroke oil. Sorry for the long post and appreciate any feedback on this scenario that hopefully will not burn a hole in his wallet!

Re: Mercury 115 - Oil Starvation

In law just spoke to a tech that works on those specific outboards and said that the motor was most likely protected from any harm per programming. Flush and reset computer, but will know specifics once he has in his hands???
