Is it a 4 or 2 cycle engine? If a 2 cycle I would like to find out the oil and gas mixture ratio. Also is it air cooled or cooled by a water pump? Can anyone out there help me with these questions. Thanks.

Re: Question on Johnson K50 8hp motor 1931

K-50 is a water cooled, 8HP, 2 cylinder 2 stroke. It uses Champion R7 spark plugs.

I don't have the gap for the plugs, the point setting for the mags or the fuel mix, but: I do have three different specs for fuel ratio.

Leanest: 24:1 using TC-WX oil. 1964 Johnson Service Manual, tenth edition specifies 24:1 for any JohnnyRude made prior to 1964. This changed many, but it also specified TC-W oil, which was a big change from SAE30.

Richest: 8:1. From an old salt many years ago. Used a smoke generator.

Probably best: 16:1 Just my intuition plus second hand from a reliable source.
