I'm looking to get some childrens stories of mine published but have no idea where to go. I was going to try authorhouse but have no idea if they're a reputable establishment or not

It has been a few years, but I used a book, Writers Market, to locate potential publishers and their areas of interest.

Seek legal advice, a good lawyer can and will allow your work to be seriously considered by a reputable publisher.
In the mean time keep your hard copies in a safety deposit box preferably at a bank.

Try LULU. They will help you self publish. I just bought a book from them I learned about on another forum.
