Tilt and trim question

I Have a motor I am looking to buy. The guy says it has tilt but does not have trim. It is a 1979 70hp Johnson. On my boat now is a 100hp evinrude with what I thought was tilt and trim. Can anyone explain what tilt and trim does and is it possible to only have a tilt motor and no trim

Pretty much all motors tilt, the question is whether or not it's power tilt? If so, it's the same thing.
Tilt means when you bring the motor all the way up (like when trailering) and trim is when you are under way and adjusting on the fly to obtain optimum performance.

seems easier just call it power tilt....... but i've been wondering the same thing also

Thst engine model was originally produced without any power tilt/trim standard. It could be added when ordered, or later as a dealer install item. That year OMC offered two options, the typical modern tilt/trim unit that was widely used and a second-tilt only option. The tilt only was to raise the engine out of the water after use. It did not permit trimming the engine when under power. Basically, the tilt only system is pretty useless.

how hard it to rebuild trim tilt pump would be and what should look for to take part with out having problems???



feedback will be helpfully and some hint i should look out also bought a case with o rings in it



lastyear i replaces both rams o rings still leaking down slowly

You may want to see if any parts are still available for the unit before you tear into it. If most parts are NLA, you won't need to worry about fixing the old one and can concentrate on trying to find a substitute replacement unit.
