1995 force power trim problems?

I just had my hydraulic cylinder rebuilt, was leaking due to bad seals.

My problem now is, I?m not sure how to refuel the system. It doesn?t have any bleed valves to remove air. I?ve filled it back up with fluid, but must still have air as it doesn?t move while trying to trim.

Any ideas or steps that should be taken to re-pressurize the system?

I'll assume that you have single ram system.

there is no bleeding. fill it and run it a little bit. fill it again and run it some more. it takes half dozen or so reservoirs before the system is full. There is no priming either. Air bubbles will float to top on their own leaving fluid in the pump gears.

If that doesn't work then it is either your pump or a bad rebuild on rams. It is not uncommon the the tip of manual release to break off. If it gets wedged internally then your system isn't going to work right without a complete breakdown.

RRIT, thanks for the imput. This system is odd, as i don't have a manual release. I found that out the hard way two years ago. My pump is only 1 1/2 years old. I guess, it's going to the local shop tomorrow.

Re: 1995 force power trim problems?

I'm picking it up from the shop on Monday. It seems it may be a bad rebuild as they couldn't get it to function properly. The shop told be they felt it wasn't the ram, as they were able to get it half way at one point.

The local hydraulic shop only replaced the seals, anyone have any suggestion on where I might be able to send for a complete rebuild?

A new unit is a little over $400 for such a small cylinder. Or I can buy the whole system for around the same price on e-bay.

you still haven't identified your system. It's not like Force only made one engine in 1995.

so it used to lift but leaked fluid? You took it in and they rebuilt ram. Now it doesn't lift at all?

Most likely, the ram wasn't rebuilt correctly and fluid blows right by piston. The Eaton is a great pump. It is sensitive to debris though. So it is possible that a bit of debris is wedged into one of the pump control valves.
