1998 Merc 502 Mag - Fuel Gauge on the fritz

My 1998 Mirage w/ 502 mag -- The fuel gauge is acting up. At the end of last season I noticed that sometimes the fuel gauge would just drop to "E" even with a full tank. I forgot about it and today when I pulled it out of storage I turned the key and noticed the fuel gauge on "E" then remembered about the problem. Can someone point me in a direction to start looking. I'm thinking maybe a problem with the connection at the gauge sending unit but im not sure where it is on this motor.

Fuel gauges have nothing to do with the motor or drive. Just a gauge and sender.

There are at least a half dozen threads that contain diagrams of the fuel gauge circuit. The search function will turn them up. I'm tired tonight. Sorry,
