..or are they just on crack?

I got this in my email today:

Anniversary Sale, Celebrating 10 years and going strong!

Going strong? Do they know something the bankruptcy court doesn't?

That is funny! Maybe the whole going under thing was to sell like crazy after advertising the 20% off.
With them 20% off is still not a huge discount on inflated prices. They made money for sure!

I think they are puffing the crack pipe.....:p

Probably just an automated message. Ritz Camera owns BW and they filed chapter 11.

This is an article dated 4/22/09

BoatersWorld.com Celebrates Tenth Anniversary With 10% Off Red Tag Sale

IRVINE, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 04/22/09 -- BoatersWorld.com, the Ritz Interactive, Inc. flagship boating and marine website, celebrates its tenth anniversary by announcing a 10% Off Red Tag Sale. Shoppers that spend $100 or more will also receive free shipping on most products and pay no sales tax.

BoatersWorld.com is offering the 10% discount, off its already discounted prices, on their most popular brands and categories. Included in the 10% Off Red Tag Sale are such well-known brands as Garmin, Furuno, Humminbird, Icom and Uniden. Additionally, boating enthusiasts can get a 25% discount off all Taylor Made boat covers.

According to Ritz Interactive president and CEO, Fred H. Lerner, "There's no better way to kick-off the boating season and to celebrate our tenth anniversary than by having a big sale. We're very appreciative of our loyal customers that have helped us reach this milestone, and we want to thank them for their support."

In addition to the great selection of thousands of boating and marine products at discounted prices, BoatersWorld.com visitors get free access to hundreds of articles, product reviews, and tips and advice covering such topics as boat care and safety, winterization and fishing tips. "Now's the time to upgrade your marine electronics, add those boat accessories and get your boat on the water to enjoy some family fun," added Lerner.

I'm guessing they are blowing out remaining stock that the liquidators(leeches) haven;t got their hands on?

Hmmm, after reading some more on the net, it appears maybe not ALL BW are going out of business?

I don't think Chapter 11 means "Out of business". Many businesses have emerged from Chapter 11 reorganization and returned to profitability.

Makes sense.

I've talked to a few of the liquidator employees at the local BW, they generally have poor attitudes, working for them must not be fun.

Besides, the liquidator game is almost a scam, the way they mark up the prices and let their customers perceive they are getting a smoking deal.

So far I have found good prices in bw for quite a few items. Actually, one was 30 percent off as advertised (after I checked it online).

Re: Boater's World not going under?

I was in there today, buying up a ton of their ancor heat shrink connectors and other odds and ends.
There are some great deals, but buyer beware, there are some terrible deals as well.
I saw a rope ladder today for $117, IIRC 40% off, which would make it $47 or so. My wife and I saw the identical ladder in chinamart for $29.

I was going to buy a few boxes of clothing hangars, as we were in there the other day and a lady there said we could get a discount buying a bunch. They were selling them for 10 for $2, and they are the exact hangars we use in my wife's shop.
Anyway, the people today wouldn't sell them to me, saying they are getting a tractor trailer in on Thursday full of merchandise.

Maybe some more deals?

Re: Boater's World not going under?

ditto on that.. I bought a can of bilgecoat for a little over 15, a set of new anodes for about the same, and some wiring odds and ends I will use. I'll go back in a few days or week for more of the paint items that I know i will use. it is kind of sad overall - especially since boatersworld was actually a viable business.

The one here in Nashville is closed down and emptied out for a week and a half now. If you have a local one open and can find a deal, don't wait long.
