1999 Volvo 5.7 GSI DPSM on a Chaparral 23 SSI

Started for the first time this year and after 4 minutes of running had several quarts of oil in the bildge.

The oil spray seems to be coming from a 1 inch round nipple at the back bottom of the engine by the oil filter (a wire is dangling next to it). I believe it is the oil pressure sender.

Unless I my diagnosis is incorrent, any suggestions, tricks, thoughts would be great. My Seloc doesn't offer much and a forum search didn't come up with much.

Easy to take off (screw off?)? It seems pretty corroded. Do I need an elbow or an adapter or any other parts when I make the order?

Could be the oil pressure sender , the oil pressure switch for the no oil alarm,or the oil pressure switch for the electric fuel pump (if equipped)
Just unscrew and replace. If it`s very tight I`d recommend a extention nipple to make it easier

Thanks for the reply. Would the switches be in the same place as the sender and leaking? I do not see any parts available for the switches in that general area on a parts scematic. What's an extension nipple?

It would just be a brass extension that screws in then screw the new sender into that.
If you can get the old one off Napa should be able to cross it for you in the Marine parts book.

I got the sender off. The top was completely corroded out. Not sure if that happens too often. What is best for the threads? I heard teflon tape or pipe dope.

Ayuh,... Use pipe dope,... Teflon tape can block the ground path,+ it won't Work right...
