Bought the boat and it was missing the slave siloid. Bought one from the local part store but can not figure out the wiring. It has 12 volts at coil but no spark. If you could please help with pictures or diagrams that would be greatly appreciated before I lose my mind.

Thank you for you time,

Eric

Put the test light on the other side of the coil and crank the motor. Does the test light blink on and off? You could have bad points, I think that's a points motor. Also try un hooking a wire for the shift interupt switch. It grounds out the ignition if bad or triggered.

welcome!

go to the adults only thread at the top of this forum
http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=288430

start by reading the "How to ask a question" link and then...
depending on what brand of 3.0 you have, there might be a free download of a factory manual there with a wiring diagram in it

Guess I just assumed it was merc, if it's OMC the coil testlight trick will still work but the shift interupt system is more complicated.

Well with the pic size requirment very low its hard to upload the pic that i have taken to explain the problem . Now as for the enine size its has a 3.0 on the middle of the valve cover. After looking around on the site i can say its a 3.0 140 hp i hope . If i where starting fresh on the siliod they are

2 each yellow/red wires
2 each red/purple wires
1 large black wire
1 small black wire

On the coil

1 small red wire which i think its the tac?
on the - side 2 green wires
on the + side green/black wires

starter siliod

2 wires black/blue yellow/red

He's got an 86, I think he needs an older wiring diagram than that.

Are you looking at the diagram linked in post 6 above? If so I think it's for a newer motor than yours. It's a big download but I think you need serv man #10 from the adults only section above. Check your wiring to this.

Is the starter turning?

Check the small terminal on the coil while cranking the starter with a test light, does the test light flash?

If it does flash then you points/elec ignition is working. If not check the points/elec ign and also try unhooking a wire from your shift interupt switch.

There is a thread at the top of this section titled adults only. In it you will find a list of downloadable service manuals for mercruiser. I think #10 is the one for your boat.

Update.. After lookiing at the wire digram and some wiring you put the hot lead on the battery the motor starts with out the key on. I also got the online manel it shows a circuit breaker.. I dont see that on my engine. Also i just used a starter solenoid from the local parts story . Could this be my problem? Thank you for your time ERIC:eek:
