Anyone have any idea why no one seems to sell head gaskets for a 58 Sportwin? They appear to be available for most other motors.

I have an old 10 horse sportwin that's not been run in years. I've had the motor a few years now, but haven't yet put the time into it to see if I can get it running. When I picked it up it seemed frozen, but a good shot of seafoam through the plug hole freed it right up. I'd rather have a look inside before I fire it up, but I just can't seem to find head gaskets for sale anywhere. Is the old one reusable?
Thanks

Have you tried calling the toll free number on laingsoutboards.com?
vintageoutboards.com?

No, but I've checked their website and they have the same list as all the others... head gaskets for just about every motor but this one. I have a local outboard place checking but I've not heard from them yet ... which doesn't boost my confidence at all. It sure seems like someone would have it. This is a popular old motor.

I found the gasket on Laing's site... I just needed to scroll down more.

Glad you found it!
I like to call laing's anyway. the guy that works there not only answers the phone, but actually knows what he's talking about and is very helpful! It's like going back in time to the "good ol' days"....:)

I spoke too soon. I had scrolled down past Johnson Evinrude parts. I guess I'll call.

This place has em listed:

vintageoutboard.com

But they're not cheap. US$41.50

I have reused some in the past and they've worked fine. I try not to but sometimes it just happens that way. Clean em up, thin layer of goop and they're good to go if they're not damaged!

Thanks Steve ... I had been to that site but I guess I missed it because it's in a powerhead gasket kit. True.. not cheap... but with all those gaskets I can take more things apart. Sounds like fun! lol
