I recently got a boat for free (nothing is free) and it had a hole (or more of a crack in it) the crack is about 2 feet long and about 1/2 an inch wide. I sanded the boat down about a 1/4 of an inch. I placed fibergass sheets on it and resin till it was built up about 1/2 an inc higher ten the boat. After letting it sit for 2 days, I took it for a 2 hour drive. When I pulled it out of the watter the repair had cracked and the new glass was showing. There is no access to get it from the inside. Wanted to know if i did anything wrong, or if there is a better way to fix it. THere is also alot of flex in that are of the boat. Any Ideas will help thats so much.

A picture will help the great people here give you the right approach.

I must admit I once got a free bass buster, and repaired it spent days fixing it,(or so I thought) only to watch as we sank in lake Grapevine.

Young people don't know you cant fiberglass to ABS plastic :D

ill see if i can take one today when i get out of work, its a modifed v hull and it is right on the left side of the v, where it hits the most watter when driving, I was thinking about cutting a hole in the deck and bracing it with some 2X4 but thats a last dich effort

Find the reason for the crack, pull the deck, redo the stringers, check the transom too. I think you'll probably find this is the root of it.
Its not so bad a job.

Re: fiberlgass repair

I was talking to the previuos owner he said that he put the ancor through the boat and thats how the hole got there. I pulled the deck off today and put about 6 layers of glass on it. Then a metal plate then 3 mor layers of glass and to top it all off i boxed out about 2 feet off or either side of the crack and filled it with just straight resin about 3 inchs deep. Then went to the outside of the boat and put on 3 more layers of glass on that side..... now it seems solid probably the most solid part on the boat
