hey guys, i need help finding out what my model number would be on my lower end housing. it is a 1996 mercruiser 3.0 alpha one. also if any body knows of a good place to buy one at let me know. thanks a lot.

What is the outdrive serial number?

Ayuh,.... You can buy brand new SEI drives right here at iboats,.... Cheap....
If your's is original, you need a Gen.II Alpha...

You might want to consider an SEI lower unit (you can order from iboats).
The price of a new lower unit is about half of the price of a new housing from Mercruiser. The OEM part number is 815822A36.
Even if you found a used lower housing, you would still have to pay to get it reshimmed and resealed when changing over the parts. Unless you happen to have the special tools needed to make the changeover.
