Thank you all for the wonderful info, new member and been living on this site for a week now, reading everything!
Just purchased what I was told was a 1972 Starcraft Chieftain with a 1972 motor. Turns out it's a Starchief and now the year of the motor is in question as well. Per the serial number search on Maxrules, it's a 1983, not '72. I need to get a manual for it.
1. Is this a 1972 or 1983 Mercury 115? Or what year?
2. Which manual would be the best one? Dad knows vehicle motors, not boat motors, but he's pretty confident he can handle it.
3. We were told the motor has not been run in 6 years. However, the carbs were drained when it was stored and it looks great. Any special concerns/things to do prior to attempting a start up?
The serial number is 6351146, it has 3 carbs and is a 6 cylinder. I can email photos, it won't let me upload them because they're too big. Can't figure out how to make them small enough, grrr. The only color paint that I see on the label is blue, maybe a tinge of pink on the "115" part (if that matters at all)
Again, thank you all very much for all the wonderful info in these forums!
