1973 mercury 850 2 stroke

Just picked up a project with a 1973 Mercury Outboard 850. Could someone tell me if these motors were all 2 stroke. V/R

Yes, it is a two stroke. I am thinking 4 strokes did not really come on the scene very much if at all until the last, what, 10 years???
