Here is a pic of my new soon to be baby

its a 1975 18ft 6in open bow rider made by Chapperal
Very nice boat of its time and today I've been told they are compared to chris craft.
And its not a tri-haul:(, but very nice and clean looks almost new its been garage kept its whole life. It has a 26 gallon fuel tank. It has a new deck and transom.
I'm buying it without motor and controls, what do you guys think is a fair price.

Jonezn I think that looks like a nice boat. Probably a lot more room than a tiny trihull not to mention a mile of difference in the looks department. I say check it over real well, look for obvious signs of poor fixes or water intrusion then offer 1000 to see where the seller is. This is only if it is absolutely sound though. If it has ANY issues, I would not go over 500 as a boat with no motor is like buying a motorcycle with no wheels or handlebars, just isnt going to sale. I assure you, he has little buyers to compete with you if any. Looks like a good one. The trailer seems a bit small though...

I would go $500 and no more then $750, pending on condition and desire. Nada has the make and year valued at $800ish. Just curious as to why you are in such a rush to buy a boat, especially one that you don't seem all that into? It might be me but you seem to have your heart set on a trihull.

Does your boat have any balsa core? I was curious and assuming not since you had three stringers to begin with.

Sorry about that.I was meaning that you have built a really solid boat and there shouldn't be any issues when she's finished.Again, sorry if I offended you. :(

Make no bones about it, I LOVE TRI HALLS
I'm digging the room though. I have A 14.5 ft tri hull i had a 55 Johnson on it, but I came across a killer 1976 merc 1500 I was going to put it on that boat but it would be crazy I have been advised. See I like the chop I like the race boat feel for me that's what i like. But the family time is a different story. so I came across this one, I like it. I never owed a V hull. I've used my dads 2000 23ft Sea Ray Cubby. But I never wanted that much boat. Hell I've only taken his out Twice and he got that one brand new still in the wrapper. And I only took it because i wanted to go deep sea fishing right then.(He lives in NJ great deep sea fishing)

I'm really not in a rush for a boat, I have 5 between my brothers and dad I can take out any time I want. I know this time of year is the best time to find a good one. I got a mean 1500 I want to stick on something by next season. I missed this whole season looking for the right boat.

OK about the boat I said the same thing about the trailer but I have a empty 20 ft dual trailer so that's no big deal, no motor and controls is no big deal either I have the motor. The guy just said make an offer but I didn't know where to search for value. I've jumped up and down on it, poked it he didn't mind at all. He just smiled. I'm still not sure if he was praying or he had gas:)eek: hahahaha) Its come with a ton of extras. sometimes I just like to through stuff out there and have it kicked around I dont know everything. Plus if it turns out to be a bad buy I can tell my wife you guys said it was a good deal.:D get some of that pressure off of me. But thanks guys. Going to the lake for the weekend see y'all Monday.

no, no, no was kidding like the fact that I have overbuilt to such a stupid level that I just wasted my money and time. Thats what I was joking about. Internet is hard to get my sarcastic type of humor across without it being misunderstood.

No there was no core in my boat. Just really thick glass and a bunch of rotten wood and a botched attempt of a cover up job to sell for profit...

That's cool. I was just checking. There is nothing worse then owning a boat that you don't like or want! Luckily, I live pretty far from you so I should be safe from your wife should you pay too much based on anything I've said :)

I love the look of a trihull boat but never rode in one to compare to a vee bottom but I've heard vee bottoms are a smoother and faster rides. I'm still waiting for Chris to finish his up for a ride to compare :D

Well, my update isnt the longest you will ever read. DOnt know that that is good or bad. I was only able to get all the rest of the substructure bedded in PL this weekend:redface: Back is still really hurting me...as you can see, my wife helped me this weekend:eek:

Had to use this cabinet shelf as a spacer. The bilge pieces kept sliding down the hull and I had no way to hold them...

And here is what my bilge looks like. You can see the drains that will both drain the tank area and the keel from bow to stern.

you can also see in the last photo how lumpy PL gets when it is 93 Fing degrees out. It doesnt matter to me though. I have found it to be much better to just use the PL to bed and epoxy PB to fillet. So I will be doing that throughout this week. If I feel decent enough:redface:

Few more.

Shes looking good I think, even though you all have seen these pics a time or two, it is nice knowing that this IS how it is staying now! just a little more trimming of the tops of the strings then one wrap of 1708 and its on to the deck! I have abandoned all hope that this thing will see water this year other than the perspiration from my sweaty nose:( oh well. Guess that means I got pleanty of time to paint her!

However, I did get a chance to do something pretty cool on Sunday. See, these are the little things that one does when he has no boat...this is the prison that Shawshank Redemption was filmed at. I never knew that this was just 40 miles up the road from me in Mansfield Ohio. If you remember, in the movie, it was set in Maine. Here is the first view of the prison that you get in the movie and is where we drove in.

boat104.jpg

THen, we went up to the room that was used as the Wardens office and the hole is still in the wall from where the safe was. The picture that hung over it is still there on the ground.

boat099.jpg

After that, we went to the room that was Brooks and Red's(not redfury!) halfway house even though it was actually inside the prison, tricky Hollywood!

boat100.jpg

This was pretty cool! THey had the props still of the hole they used to shoot where the warden uncovers Andy's escape hole behind the poster. Watch the movie, this will trip you out!

I been bad:(

One of the most odd things that I learned on this tour is that they didnt use the prisons cells in the movie. THey went elsewhere for that. The cells here were just TOO small I guess. This prison was shut down 3 years before Shawshank was filmed due to inhumane claims from the inmates. I get it now that I have been there! I mean these cells are not even as big as the steering wheel back to the splashwell of my boat! And they held two guys and they only got one shower a week! EWWWWWWWWWWWW

Neat thing to do if you are close.

lol...I had to take a poke at you with the core. Looks like you made some pretty good progress this weekend.

The prison pictures were pretty cool. I had no idea it was filmed in Mansfield.
