Re: What about this pontoon?

Depends on the HP... If I had to make a guess with 2 logs on a 24' toon and I think that is a 130hp but again that is a guess I am going to say she will run about 26-30mph.

Make sure you take her for a ride.

as far as price. I have no idea what year it is but I can see the registration sticker looks like '05 which tells me it may have been sitting for a few years. Be sure to have her inspected.

Yeah I just noticed it has been deleted--

He was asking $6500.00

Here is his new ad--
http://slo.craigslist.org/boa/1154200732.html

He RAISED the price to $7500.00-- same ad. Some people!!

I talked to him this morning (before he increased the price) it's an '86 year model.

I was going to offer him less---didn't expect a price INCREASE. Lol.

If you guys don't mind i'll be posting any that i'm interested in-- I really do need the advice and experience you guys bring.

Thanks!

Lot's of non-enclosed front deck that I am not fond of except for fishing pontoons. It appears to be in good shape but is still 23 years old. If you like the boat, I would try maybe 4 grand but would not go over 5. One repair job on that engine could be quiet costly.

Good point on the non-enclosed front deck-- I'm still learning about pontoons.

Thanks guys

Re: What about this pontoon?

My old toon had that same area out front. Unless I was casting, I found it to be wasted space. My new one has railing to the front. I was always nervous about having the kids out there and never if the boat was moving.
It's a lot to pay for an '86. It appears in reasonable shape. From photos it appears some stitching is coming apart. Check the floor for soft spots. Has it ever been replaced? At this price, everything should be near perfect. I assume the trailer is included. Another item is the size of the pontoons. These look like 20 or 21 inch diameter. Bigger toons are better

Alright Tashasdaddy--I'm jealous. Thats a good deal. I like the pink flamingo!

We are trying to be careful how we spend our $$ in this economy-- so buying a brand new one doesn't make sense to me right now.

My budget is right at the 6-7k range unless I find that deal I can't pass up.

They all seem to be more expensive (used) out here in California-- I wonder if it is because their are less of them around?

Jeepman--thanks for the info on 'toon size-- Question, what size "tubes" am I looking for? Is a 21"-22" small? What size is ideal? What happens if I get a boat with small tubes?

Thanks to all you guys for all the help, and if you see a great deal-- let me know!

Really old toons had 18". As time advanced so did toon size. My '88 has 23" and my new one has 26". Most 1990 or newer will have 21" or bigger. Bigger pontoons gives you a higher weight capacity and will let the boat ride a little higher which is advantagous if you catch a wave. Basically, more stable.
How much of a drive is it to Lake Havazsu. I have an uncle who lives there, and he says that pontoon boats are popular there. You may have to travel a little farther than expected to get the right boat.

Re: What about this pontoon?

I wouldn't fret over foam filled logs. Insure the boat for damage, which costs about as much as a tank of gas for the year, and let the insurance worry about damage. I've owned 3 pontoons since 1990, I beach them on a regular basis and have never dented a log, let alone put a hole in one. Big logs = better ride, stay away from anything under 21".

Shop around, there are deals out there. My brother is looking at a mid 90's 20 footer with 70hp, needs some upholstery repair but is usable, has good decks good power, roto seats (roto seats are plastic bases as opposed to plywood framed on older boats) for $3000.

Get into something like that and work your way up. Watch private ads, the shopper papers, stuff like that, for a private party who NEEDS to move his boat. Have the $$$ ready to go and grab a deal.

Look at Forester boats at T&M Marine in Minnesota, good low dollar boats for a good price. My current boat is a Forester that I went and got and put a used 50 Evinrude on myself, all for under $7K.

I drove to Havasu to buy mine. Got a 28 ft. JC Pontoon boat with a Evinrude 115hp and a 25hp trolling motor. I saw it on Craigslist and did some calling to the guy and bought it over the phone.
