I have recently purchased an FD-15 1961 18hp Johnson. I am doing the routine tune-up and decided to change the head gasket as well. Does anyone know the right torque specs and sequence? Also what is the torque spec on the flywheel nut i have seen many different answers.

Thanks

Not exactly the answer I was looking for. I have exploded views of everything I need which came with the motor and the only thing I need to put this motor back together is these specs. I am trying to avoid getting manual for now.

Thanks though, that is one of the cheapest ones I've seen.

Can anyone help me with the specs please?

Just trying to help out Duck...If you plaqn on keeping this motor, it will be the best investment. I have manuals for EVERY combustion engine I have ever owned. Cars, motorcycles, sleds, outboards, pickups. My wife keeps asking me to throw the bin full of them out, but I would never part with my OEM, aftermarket service manuals...

I hope someone can help you out...

Good Luck..

No I understand, I plan on getting one but the only ones I found were 40+ without shipping. I am still in college so my budget is limited so I have to be selective.

I got this motor off craigslist for $75, didn't have a prop and was missing the speed control shaft. Put it in a barrel and started after 2 pulls. Changed the plugs and water came out of the lower unit. Then I installed a lower unit seal kit and an impellar while I was in there. Took it out on the water and ran good. Then when it came to actually go fishing, motor would miss at low speeds and wouldn't run wide open most of the time. From there I took out the carb and cleaned every part of it and reinstalled. Had a lot of problems getting it started. When is started it idled very well but wouldn't wind out at all. The gasket around the needles looked in poor shape. The only way the motor would run is if I tight, so tight the needles wouldn't be able to move. So I ordered a carb rebuild kit. I also decided to replace the head gasket and clean the cylinders/head. There was excess fuel leaking out from the spark plug! I checked the points and one was about .050" and the other was pretty much closed. But the coils and points look like they are in very good condition.

At any rate I am confident that after the carb rebuild kit goes in along with the head gasket I will have a good running motor. It has ran me about $150, including the prop which was 80 of it. Tim's Outboard in hackensack, mn has gotting me parts for very cheap and fast. I have gotted parts the next day after I ordered them everytime. at the local shop the speed control shaft/gear was going to cost me almost $100 at the local shop, Tim's got me one for $12.00! All in all it has been a good learning experience so far. This is my first boat/outboard.

Just in case anyone is wonder, put the head gasket and carb kit in today. She ran like a dream, I almost fell over. I tried a little trolling and it would troll down to .5mph which is about right for walleye and would get my 14' boat to 20+ according to my speedo (take that for what is worth). No misses and took of out of the hole very well. Again thanks for the info.
