I recently purchased my first boat..It is a 1963 Starcraft Arrow with a 1963 35 HP Mercury outboard Motor..has a 1963 Sterling trailer..package deal and not that much $$ for it..
My question is this..What are the things I might need to look out for in a Mercury like this?
I am making myself familiar with the mainteneace of these motors..Is there a need to change oil? How often should it be serviced?
Want to make sure it is ready for the water before I get on the water.
Motor and boat in great shape.

Thanks

Re: New to Mercurys

Welcome to iboats. Lower unit oil should be changed annually. If it is milky you have to fix source of water intrusion. Water pump impellor should be changed if it has been more than a couple of years. 2 cycle oil must be mixed with the gas 50:1 I strongly suggest getting a manual. It will pay for itself many times over.
